Avocados are Back -- Hi!

I don't know about you, but it's been a long time since we had some Blue Guacamole. Susan Sanow and I have had a lovely sabbatical and we're also very happy to be back. Break open that bag of chips and a couple of beers for us, too?  :) This issue:

  • A Tiger Escaped Today . . . and I'm on the Zoo Board: First Person Nonprofit
  • Everything We've Been Taught About Major Gifts is Wrong by Jan Masaoka
  • Why Don't Foundations Build Capacity in Fundraising? by Aaron Dorman
  • Ask Rita: Can We Fire Someone for What They Said in Personal Email? by Pamela Fyfe
  • Nine Nonprofit Trends that Need to Die by Vu Le

You might notice our new look, too. The changes are minor but they allow Blue Avocado to look better on those electronic devices that didn't exist when we started in 2008. And please: let us know what you're up to! -- Jan Masaoka

  • I thought when I retired to North Carolina from Rhode Island that I would cut back on my volunteer and non-profit activities, but I just couldn't stay away! Blue Avocado has been an entertaining, informative, and very helpful resource to me over the years, so I'm delighted to see this new issue to have you back in my life again! A whole new community - a whole lot more volunteer projects to consider - and BA in my file of resources and tools. I'm ready! - And, Thank You!

  • Welcome back! I was going through and cleaning out some old emails, and found a stash of Blue Avocados! I couldn’t take it upon myself to get rid of them in all that time……now that you’re back, perhaps I can part with a FEW of them……

  • Welcome back!
You were missed. I mentor other nonprofits in my "spare" time and always recommend they check out Blue Avocado.

So glad you're back - from me and a bunch of others!

  • So glad you are back! I have missed you.

One thing I especially like about Blue Avocado is its voice -- always clearly addressing non-profit boards and EDs at exactly the right point of conversational engagement.

  • Henry, your comment means a lot to me. Your phrase "the right point of conversational engagement" is wonderful. Jan
